Cleaner Air Workshop for Wildfire Smoke and Urban Air Pollution
April 2, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
On April 2nd, 2022, Bill Horn of Davis Makerspace is partnering with the Davis Public Library (Mary L. Stephens branch) to put on a work shop on creating self-made air filtration devices.
Learn ways to measure air pollution using simple sensor systems with microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino) or microcomputers (Raspberry Pi). With these skills and devices, participants will more easily improve your local air quality with fans, filters and vegetation.
This event will take place in front of Davis Public Library (Mary L. Stephens branch) and some supplies will be provided.
Description
Participants should bring their own laptops. A few loaner laptops will be provided. Those who would like to take their sensors home will need to pay $30 for the cost of the supplies.
In this workshop, participants will set up their Arduino and gas sensor to get basic readings from smoke sources inclucing incense, butane lighters and candles. If time allows, calibration of cylinders to detect specific gases (carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane) will be taught.
